St. Valentine's Day Massacre II
Posted Thursday/February 14, 2002; 9:39 p.m. PST
Valentine's Day 1929 is rememebered as the day of the most infamous criminal act on criminals, the St. Valentine's Day Massacre. Long before Michael Jordan was legendary as a Bull, Al Capone was legendary as a Chicago Bully. It was A.C. not M.J., that put the Windy City on the map. Capone made Chicago infamous for flying bullets in his day, Jordan made it famous for flying dunks in his. Michael Jordon brought six championships to that town, but no one EVER thinks about him on Valentine's Day. Al Capone could couldn't even dunk (but boy could he shoot!), yet virtually everyone thinks about him on this day. Thanks to Scarface, Valentine's Day will forever bring thoughts of sweethearts and gunmen in equal proportions.
Valentine's Day 2002 may be remembered as the day the most infamous, virtually-criminal act on NFL Fans, came under heavy fire by the Washington State Legislature. Rep. Sam Hunt is no Al Capone, but he pulled the trigger of his "Tommy Gun," on the NFL Blackout Policy. House Bill 2838 prohibiting professional football blackouts, BLASTED it's way through the House of Representatives by a vote of 95-3. It's been 73 years since there was a "hit" like that on Valentine's Day. For Seahawk Fans in Washington State and NFL Fans across the league, this is a Sweetheart of a Bill! Prohibition is prohibition. The NFL is as brutal about TV dealing in '02 as the mobsters were about booze back in the '20's! Sweethearts and gunmen go together like blackouts and bills. Happy St. Valentine's Day! |
