Call to Arms!
Posted Wednesday/June 30, 1999; 3:52 p.m. PDT Ron Judd’s column, “Mariner owners know taxpayers are powerless,” is nothing short of “A Call to Arms” to Seattle Sports Fans! A “$top $afeco MADNE$$! protest” is WeTheFans.com's response to that Call! So now, the stage is set for Seattle Sports Fans to RALLY like we always expect the Seahawks and Sonics to, late in the fourth, and the Mariners in the bottom of the ninth. [It would have been SWEET if Griffey had hit a Grand Slam in the “bottom of the last Kingdome ninth,” huh?]
Entering the new millennium, Seattle is without question, one of the country’s “Coolest Sports Towns!” The Emerald City has three competitive teams, plenty of Super Stars, the best player in baseball, the best play-by-play announcer in the NBA, a Super Bowl-caliber head coach, and Richie “Richest” Rich owners. Key Arena is still sparkling, the Seahawks’ stadium will be the country’s finest in 2002, and Safeco Field, the most $tate-of-the-Art baseball park in the country, is headed Home for its Grand Opening. The stage is set for Seattle Sports Fans to RALLY, “come from behind,” “get a win,” and “balance the power” to PRESERVE this Cool Sports Town!
Judd’s Call to Arms is for Seattle Sports Fans to UNITE and take the position we should RIGHTFULLY play in the public/private partnership Safeco Field was based on. The partnership we still expect to work as it was intended! At this point, ONLY the Fans can keep the deal on track! Victories aren’t given, they’re taken! A $top $afeco MADNE$$ protest is “a must win” for Seattle Sports Fans! But the question is how? These things must be done delicately. Judd has built the platform. A platform that Seattle Sports Fans can take-off from to formulate and execute a Game Plan that will make Opening Day at Safeco Field, “One of the Great Days in Seattle Sports!” Who’s in?
