presents the, WeTheFans Declaration of Inter-dependence: Via the Internet, March 8, 1999, The Declaration of Inter-dependence
by WeTheFans of Major Sports of The 50 United States of America
When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one
people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with
another, and to assume among the Powers of the earth, the separate and
equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle
them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should
declare the causes which impel them to the separation.
We hold these truths to be self-evident,
that all people are created equal, but WeTheFans
will probably never be a sports team owner or professional athlete.
But that doesn't mean that as Fans we don't
want to enjoy our certain, Creator-endowed, unalienable Rights of Life,
Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness as we follow sports. Sports Leagues
have been instituted among Men, and WeTheFans believe Sports Leagues should
derive their just powers from the consent of the Fans. That whenever any
Form of League becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the
Fans to alter it and institute new Fan Rules, having its foundation on such
principles and organizing powers in the form of WeTheFans.com via the Internet
which seems most likely to effect our Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed
will dictate that Leagues long established should not be changed for light
and transient causes; and accordingly all experience has shown that Fans
are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves
by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train
of abuses and usurpations pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a
design to reduce them under absolute Tyranny, it is the Fans right, it is
their duty, to throw off such Leagues, and to provide WeTheFans.com, via
the Internet, as the new Guards for WeTheFans' future security. Such has
been the patient sufferance of WeTheFans; and such is now the necessity
which compels us to alter the former Systems of Fans Participation with
Leagues of the NBA, NHL, MLB and NFL.
The history of the present Leagues is a history of repeated injuries
and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute
Tyranny over WeTheFans. To prove this, let Facts of the content of this
site be submitted to a candid world. We therefore, acquiesce in the necessity,
which pronounces our Separation, and hold them, as we hold other corporations,
Enemies in War, in Peace Friends.
WeTheFans therefore, the Representatives of Sports Fans of the United
States of America, as WeTheFans.com assembled, appealing to the Supreme
Judge of the world for rectitude of our intentions, do, in the name of
the good People of Sports, solemnly publish and declare, That WeTheFans
are, and of Right to be Free and Independent; that we are Absolved from
all Allegiance to the Major Sports Leagues and all political connection
to the Major Sports Leagues is and ought to be totally dissolved; and
that as Free and Independent Fans, we have full power to levy War, conclude
Peace, contract Alliances, establish Commerce, and do all other Acts and
Things which Independent Fans may of right do. And for the support of
this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the Protection of Divine Providence,
we mutually pledge to each our sacred Honor.
